5 Tips For Creating Your Perfect Closet

We've all seen plenty of them on Pinterest: pristine closets overflowing with color-coordinated clothing and rows upon rows of beautifully displayed shoes and jewelry. While a giant walk-in closet complete with a chandelier and chaise lounge may be a bit out of reach for most of us, a well-organized and artfully displayed one is completely attainable. These organization tips will help to make your closet Pin-worthy in no time!

1. The first step to an organized closet is to get rid of anything you don't need. Ask yourself: do I feel confident in thisHave I worn it in the past 12 months? If the answer to either question is no — or if the item is damaged or doesn't fit quite right — chuck it. Arrange everything into four categories: keep, trash, donate and storage (for those heavier winter items you won't be wearing for a while).
Sometimes it can be difficult to get rid of things that you've become emotionally attached to, so invite a friend over to help you out. Friends offer an objective point of view — plus, you'll have much more fun with a closet-cleaning partner! And remember: the more space you make in your closet, the more room you'll have for new items!
2. Once you've finished purging, start brainstorming creative ways to display your favorite pieces and accessories. You didn't buy that Kate Spade bag or those Manolo pumps so that they could sit at the bottom of your closet! Display them proudly!
3. Make a spectacle of your favorite jewels by organizing them into eye-catching wall displays. Placing them in clear bowls and jars looks lovely too!

4. If you're short on closet space, why not show off your favorite pieces on a pretty clothing rack?

5. Invest in quality hangers! Not only do they prevent stretching and scuff marks on clothing, but they also just look so much prettier than boring wire ones!

I hope this helps :)

Much ado about Valentines day

I never minded celebrating valentines day in previous years but these days i find it quite annoying. Over the years i have realised that i get very bored of repetitiveness..which in itself is very interesting because i am very change averse. A few years ago couples celebrated valentines day in their own privacy but with the advent of social media, it has become more like a reality TV series. In my opinion, this makes it unoriginal and more scripted. I do understand that nowadays people do enjoy scripted reality shows but when it comes to ones personal life i find that a tad disturbing.

I missed those days when us girls would have Valentine dates and then recount the excitement we felt the following day. We would have sleep overs, manicure/ pedicure  in our Pjs and then talk about the day before with so much laughter and screams in the air. Today, one is flooded with information of valentine shenanigans through social media, without a choice of deciding if one wants all the juicy details or not.

Another thing that is very apparent is how 'Valentine' is just a ploy by capitalist to cash in. I am not convinced that the man in my life should show me how much he loves me on one designated day. I need him to show me this everyday.. i demand that this be the case. This is the major reason why i am not so keen on valentines day...because id rather be sent presents, chocolates and flowers on random days just because. If the man i am dating waits till only Valentine day to spoil me i would be very upset. So you can imagine my confusion when i see lots of girls getting excited over being swept off their feet once a year. ONCE A YEAR? ( and maybe birthdays?)..that's not a love language anyone should be excited about. So ladies, if your man sweeps you off your feet once or twice a year..i am sending hugs your way darling you need it. Whatever you choose to do today please enjoy. For some of us it would be business as usual :)

PS: little gestures can also be romantic and can sweep a lady off her feet. Your man does not have to buy you stuff to show you he loves you. Although if he did that would be great :D

Retirement Plan?

I was having a conversation with a friend and she was telling me how she has to work twice as hard if she ever was to have a retirement plan. She mentioned how she wants to work harder so she can retire earlier and then spend the rest of her retirement life with her children/grandchildren, travelling around the world and then starting an exciting hobby like gardening. I didnt understand it. I asked her why she felt she needed to wait till she retired to do all those things she mentioned. She had no answer and it immediately dawned on me. We are often conditioned to think the way we do...sometimes without even knowing why we do what we do. Its a system sort of...people before us have done it and now it has become the norm so we must follow suit.

I really dont understand why people feel they need to work so hard and then enjoy the fruit of their labour in their 60's when arthritis, high BP or hip replacements may take centre stage. What is the point of being on earth if one isn't living? I believe people should work hard but also find the time to spend with loved ones, travel around the world and also start a new hobby or even a new business they may be passionate about. Why would i want to wait till my bones are brittle to go skydiving, cycle around africa/europe or swim in a warm spring in swaziland? There are other adventures id love to do when i am old but the ones that involve lots of energy and adrenaline id rather do in my youth. If people invested time in living then life wouldn't be so difficult. Imagine if you travelled to at least one country every year until you are 70, you would have experienced so many cultures and traditions and seen so many cities, tasted so many delicacies and learnt so much. why wait till retirement?

A lot of us work work and do more work but we must not forget that if we fail to do the things that make us happy and spend time with people we love and go to places we love, we may regret it when we are old and grey. Dont just waltz through life....enjoy every moment...every minute...and every second of it

Can women have it all?

As a young woman growing in this 21st century, i often hear people say one can never have it all and some things have got to give. For instance, if you are an ambitious woman, you most likely would be very successful career wise but may struggle in the relationship department or, may end up getting married to a man who you ended up settling for as your biological clock isnt exactly time conscious. Another example is, a very successful couple who have the best of everything but are very unhappy, or a poor couple who have so much love between them but aren't doing so well career wise. This mindset is everywhere you look, on blogs, television, in books, etc and it apparently is how life is or how people expect life to be. I honestly do not accept this mentality. I may be a naive little lady but i honestly do not ascribe to this.

Just as people attract who they are, people attract what they want through their thought process. Often at times, positive people do attract positive things into their lives and negative people also do attract so much negativity. I do believe that if you want something, you just have to think it and believe you can have it. Nothing in this life is impossible. I also do believe that you can have all of the above ie successful career, lovely relationship, beautiful kids, nice home etc...but i do believe you may not have it all at once. This is simply due to the fact that there is time for everything. Forcing certain things to happen when the universe is against it happening at that particular point in time is not a very wise move.

We come from a generation where people want things to happen as soon as possible maybe because a lot of things do occur that way. We are not as patient as our parents were which is understandable as times have changed. However, this mentality also affects our outlook on life. Rather than seeing the glass half full we see it half empty and i think this affects what we end up getting out of life as our predisposition is somewhat altered.

I do believe i can have it all. i really do. I just feel i may not have it all at the same time. For example, in the future when i am busy homeschooling my kids (dont ask), my career may suffer a little bit but i will never consider myself unsuccessful because i didnt get to the topmost ladder in my sector. I would feel that the ability to prioritise and care for my kids during that time rather than chasing promotions is in itself success because that would be of utmost importance to me at that time. And when my kids get into prep school, i can get back into being a career mum and find a way to juggle my time.I may keep juggling till my kids become less dependent and face my career full on. it is very possible it just all has to be at the right time.

One important factor a lot of people have never considered is the kind of man you end up getting married to. Your future husband does play a significant role in how you life turns out. if your husband isnt a supportive partner then this will be extremely difficult. Getting married to the right partner is the most important life decision you will ever make as that affects not only your career but your happiness, your future, your children's future etc. Everyone can have it all..it just depends on timing and your mentality as a person. Seeing the glass half full and emanating a lot of positivity helps. One other thing that makes 'having it all' less elusive is if a woman can manage her own time and not work long hours on another person's schedule. There is nothing wrong with wanting to have it all as far as we are cognizant  of the fact that it may not all be at once for a very long time.
